In collaboration with UltiMaker, the New York City chapter of IDSA – Industrial Designers Society of America, launched the Rising Design Visionaries: Student Video Competition. The competition was designed for students to showcase their passion for design by submitting a video to answer the questions, “Why did you choose design as your future profession? What is one pressing issue or challenge in your community that you’re passionate about addressing through design?”

The grand prize was a new MakerBot Sketch Sprint 3D printer, the fastest and most classroom-friendly 3D printer on the market.

Submissions poured in from schools in the area including City Tech, CUNY, Parsons School of Design | The New School, Pratt Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology, and School of Visual Arts. Watch all videos here.

Congratulations to all the students who participated and shared an idea of how they would utilize design to drive positive change in their communities. We are thrilled to award the Sketch Sprint to Kairu Tong, senior at Parsons School of Design | The New School.
