The Advantages of METHOD Real ABS vs Desktop 3D Printer ABS Guide

Featuring METHOD X — A Manufacturing Workstation

ABS is the best material choice for applications where strength, ductility, machinability, and thermal stability are required. However, it is highly susceptible to warping and curling in desktop 3D printers. Download this free guide and learn why more engineers choose real ABS.

What’s in the guide?

•  The key differences between real ABS and Desktop 3D printer ABS formulations
•  Why more engineers are choosing dimensional accuracy and durability over resolutions when purchasing a 3D printer
•  The advantages of using METHOD Real ABS for end-use parts, manufacturing tools, and functional prototypes
•  …and more!

Chapter 1: Why Engineers Choose ABS

Chapter 2: Advantages of MakerBot Real ABS

ABS (ACRYLONITRILE BUTADIENE STYRENE) is one of the most common plastics used in injection-molding, found in many common products such as LEGOS, computer keys, power-
tool housings, and automotive parts. It is valued for its excellent mechanical and thermal properties, combining high strength and durability with heat resistance.

Desktop 3D printer manufacturers attempt to get around this by altering their ABS formulations with impact modifiers. These modifications result in a material less prone to warp, but at the expense of other thermal and mechanical properties. The result is a material, and 3D printed parts, such as functional prototypes, that differ significantly in performance from the final injection-molded parts.
