New eccentric characters from the Around Town collection have arrived at the Makerbot Digital Store. We took a look behind the scenes to learn about what inspired the MakerBot Studio’s latest series of 3D printable digital models.
Blast From the Recent Past
“With Around Town, we wanted each collection to be as playable as possible. The colorful playsets of the 1990’s were a great place to start,” said Andrew Park, Senior Project Manager for the MakerBot Studio.
The team was also inspired by the work of Richard Scarry, the famed children’s book author and creator of Busytown, the popular franchise about a town populated with friendly animals.
“Busytown shows kids that each character has a role to play within the town, from the firefighter to the doctor,” said Park.
Local Pride
The sheer variety of characters in Busytown reminded the MakerBot Studio team of the inhabitants of Brooklyn, where MakerBot is headquartered and where it designs, prototypes and manufactures its products.
“When you walk around the streets of Brooklyn, you get a sense of how culturally rich this borough is. Diversity gives Brooklyn a strong feeling of community, and everyone has a unique part to play.”
A Growing Community
A cast of lively personalities has definitely made its way into this latest collection. Dina the dancing policewoman and Terrance the down-to-earth billionaire will be among twelve new characters joining all your favorites from the first Around Town release.
