Dr. Henry Thomas has been designing bicycles since 2007. In 2011, Steven Cranitch, a successful Australian entrepreneur, asked Henry to use his expertise and create a bicycle experience that felt like running. The result was the RUN4 bicycle, which Henry states, “mimics the natural motion and sensation of running without the impact.”
Initially, prototyping was costing the team too much time and money. Henry bought a MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer to alleviate the pain, giving Henry the confidence to push his design ideas further. Through rapid testing and experimentation, Henry created a folding frame that could ship easily all over the world directly from his Taiwanese manufacturing facility. That meant no re-shipping to an inventory warehouse in Australia, no repackaging, and an estimated savings of half a million dollars. Not bad for one little Bot.
