MakerBot Charm Challenge for Maker Faire

We’re furiously prepping for a legendary Maker Faire here in New York in less than a week. Once we get the Bot-farm up and running, we’ll have a small army of MakerBots printing things out all day long.

Submit your charm designs by Wednesday, September 22nd, and we will consider printing them at Maker Faire! We’re looking for things that are quick to print that we can awe visitors with.

At the BotCave MakerBots are already hard at work printing things like this butterfly ornament designed by bpijls to give away at Maker Faire this weekend.

So get to work on a cool design for Maker Faire, and your creation could be given away at our booth!

A MakerBot Self Replicates!!!!

9_display_medium

Wow, just wow! Christian Arnø has made a MakerBot with a MakerBot and has achieved MakerBot self replication!!! SO MUCH WIN!

The reprap is not the only 3d printer that can replicate itself, now the Makerbot can too.

This Makerbot is made out of approximately 150 individual pieces that is printed on , (yes you guessed it) a Makerbot.

My Makerbot worked hard everyday for about a month straight to finish this project, and i am immensly happy about the end result

(The pictures doesn’t do it justice one bit, but it really is a thing of beauty)

Make sure to check out the MakerBot made by a MakerBot page on Thingiverse to look at all the pictures! WOW!

Diaspora Guys Met Making a MakerBot!

Daniel Grippi, Maxwell Salzberg, Raphael Sofaer, and Ilya Zhitomirskiy are four NYU computer science students who bonded over many late nights building a Makerbot at ACM meetings. After being inspired by a talk by Eben Moglen about freedom and ownership online, they started discussing what a distributed social network would look like and started building it.

These guys are building something the internet has needed for years. Check out their kickstarter page and consider supporting their project! These guys show you that when you get a MakerBot, you might just make some good friends and make wonderful things happen!

LearnMakeCupcake: Playing Ketchup

The folks in Washington state are rocking it these days. Kevin, who is in the Learn Make Cupcake group at the University of Washington has been printing Mendel parts like mad and added a nice hack to his extruder to stop busting out PTFE barriers.

A MakerBot gets a Workout over at Open3DP

One of the MakerBots over at the University of Washington is getting a workout!

This weekend our MakerBot got a big work out as we had the College of Engineering Open House (now called Discovery Days). Belinda — one of the team members designed a “give away part” which was a little W. Belinda started making hundreds of the little W’s. The MakerBot ran almost non-stop for three days. All-in-all, it was a great performance.
