A few good people have recently noticed a photo in MakerBot employee extraordinaire Matt Mets’ photostream: Botcave vending machine by night

Matt’s photo has a handy-dandy key to what’s in there for there now; there are also $0.25 sample prints in there now, and we’re going to be adding even more products as time goes on.

We had been putting the finished touches on it, so we hadn’t yet shouted it to the rooftops, but you can come on down to the Botcave, 87 3rd Ave in Brooklyn 11am-6pm weekdays, to vend yourself  little helpings of the future.

If you come this week…bring $1 or $5 bills.  (It’ll take twenties soon, I promise.)

This is a pretty momentous day that we’ve been working towards- the unleashing of all the BotCave Store products into the MakerBot Store! It’s a kitbuilders paradise, with lots of great kits from our friends and collaborators in the Open Hardware world! Plus the MakerBot x Baggu BotBags are up too! Carry your bot in style!

Kyle and Adrian are two architecture graduate students at Pratt who dropped by the store yesterday to get some help on their CupCake CNC as well as some help soldering their relay board at our soldering station.

They also bought five pounds of natural ABS for printing building models to show their clients.

MakerBot has opened a small popup retail space at our headquarters in Brooklyn.

Hanukkah is rapidly approaching. It starts this Wednesday, December 1st at sundown. Need a menorah? Want to do a little soldering? Want to save wax?

Our Deluxe LED Menorah kit is an updated take on the traditional hanukkiyah, the nine-armed Hanukkah candelabrum. Two candles are lit on the first night of Hanukkah (one “real” candle plus the lighter candle, or shamash), three on the second night, right up to nine on the eighth night. (That’s (2+9)*(8/2)=44 candles all together, for those of you keeping score.)

Ours works pretty much the same way, but uses less wax. When you turn it on, it displays the correct configuration of LED “candles” for a given night of Hanukkah. Each time that you press the button (or switch it off and back on), it displays one more light than it did the previous time that you turned it on (unless it showed all nine last time, in which case it goes back to two). The LEDs are lit up in the traditional sequence, with a gentle fade.”

The MakerBot Botcave™ Retail Store opens on November 26th! As far as we know, this is the first time anyone has opened a store focused on open source hardware. It is getting set up right now as an actual physical retail store at 87 3rd Ave here in Brooklyn. We’re going to plan to be open Tuesday to Saturday 12-8 until Christmas eve!
