Well I tried this today. I took a trip to the Makerbot Store in NYC. I had 3 empty spools and wanted 3 ABS. But I was told you only sell PLA in the store. Since this deal is not for online then there does not seem to be a way to turn these in if you want ABS.

IMO it would be nice if MBI provided a shipping label and let customers around the US ship their empty spools back for reuse. I have a growing pile of spools on the floor of my office and would love to send them back. 🙂

I’d love for there to be some kind of recycling shipping program. I realize it will probably cost more to ship than the spool is worth. Maybe it’s shipping back 5 or 10 spools at a time (reusing the box the new filament came in) to make it more cost effective? Instead of 10% discount, I’d be happy with a 5% discount for sending in 5 empties or whatever it takes to offset shipping.
