New MakerWare Version Available For Download

Stop what you’re doing! MakerBot MakerWare 1.1.2 is now available for download, and it involves a couple good fixes you may find interesting.

As always, head over to the MakerWare page for the latest downloads. Here’s what’s included in this release:

●  It is now possible to save directly to an SD card on Macs.
●  There is a gcode verifier that checks for errors in gcode when printing over USB or when printing to file.
●  There are now bot-specific messages during firmware uploading, so MakerBot Replicator 2 users will no longer be told about a reset button.
●  When connecting to a MakerBot with version 5.X firmware, there’s now a message recommending that users upgrade to a newer firmware version.
●  The newest firmware is now the default when uploading firmware.
●  Some Windows users running anti-spyware applications received an error message due to an incorrect localhost address. This has been fixed.

I might be wrong in my perspective, but it feels like you’ve become a typical company that orphans its older products. I bought a TOM because I felt like MakerBot would be different. I assumed that, being a company based on open principles, my TOM would be supported for a long time to come. This doesn’t seem to be the case. So much information on the TOM has been put into a zip file, making it hard to access, and now your new software has no support for the TOM. You state it’s coming, but I’m doubtful.

I don’t care that you want to make money. I don’t care that you want to write your own software. That’s capitalism, and that’s a good thing. What I do care about is being supported after paying a substantial amount for your product. If old products are going to be orphaned, I won’t take a chance on buying any of your newer products.

Here’s to hoping a version of Makerware with TOM support comes out soon, that it actually works well, and that I have to take my doubts back.

    John

I see my comment from February 1st is still not moderated. And yet, a post from Feb 2nd has been. Are you not wanting to show my post? Hopefully this is just an oversight; if not, it’s very disappointing.

Don’t feel to bad John… MBI isn’t even supporting people who bought a Replicator 2 in solving a very real filament feeder/plunger problem – so I can imagine they care about supporting something that they are not still selling!
