NYC Mayor Bloomberg Meets The MakerBot Replicator 2

MakerBot was a featured guest at a nice gathering this week, hosted by New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg. The classy soiree was held on the grounds of Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the Mayor.

The evening was a celebration of the remarkable explosion of tech and digital media in New York City since 2007. From NYC.gov:

Between 2007 and 2010, the number of people working at New York City digital media companies grew by 74%. Furthermore, New York City was the only region in the nation to have an increase in venture capital funding to tech companies from 2007 to 2011. And today, the New York City metro area is number one for job growth in the mobile app industry.

Okay, so the MakerBot Replicator 2 isn’t a mobile app, but look how mobile it is! Bre and our engineer/secret wizard Peter, brought one with them, and Mayor Bloomberg was reportedly very impressed. You know what that means!

No, really, do you know what that means? We’re not really sure. We just think it’s fun to impress a man who’s seen it all. Look at the face of disbelief in the picture below. We think Bre is saying something like “And! If you don’t want to design things yourself, you can just go on Thingiverse and download them for free.” To which the Mayor’s face is replying, “Oh come on.”

Yes, Mr. Mayor, it’s all happening.

So, does the mayor have his mansion covered in plastic just like you-know-who in Time Bandits?
