A Visit from Lem Fugitt of Robot Dreams

After visiting our HOPE Number 9 booth, Robot Dreams blogger Lem Fugitt stopped by MakerBot to pick up a few goodies he purchased to take back home with him to Tokyo. He has been by MakerBot several times, as far back as 2010, and he stopped by the BotFarm to meet the local robots, including MakerBot Petting Zoo favorite Bumper Bot designed by MakerBot designer Jason Bakutis and a few of the Minions created by MakerBot’s Michael Curry. He was thrilled to grab a BotMobile and a few MakerBot Windup Walkers for some projects back home.

Final Touches On Action Figures Using MakerBot

We had the great fortune of being situated right next to DeviantArt at Comic-Con for the past several days, so an extra wave of great artists found their way over to our booth. It turns out there is a great collection of 3D art in that community.

And check this out, at least one person is actively using a MakerBot for some original toy design.

The artist, ~bohnded, writes that this is his own re-imagined series of figures, based on G.I. Joe Sigma 6 bodies, using Marvel’s Micronauts as inspiration. These figures are 8″ tall, more than twice the size of the 3.75″ figures of the earlier toy series.

~Bohnded has used the web-based design system Tinkercad to design the add-ons like armor elements, and then made them on his MakerBot Thing-O-Matic. Nice work!

Some Photos from HOPE Number 9

Check out a few images from MakerBot’s weekend at HOPE Number 9!

Thanks also to the many visitors who snapped great photos of the MakerBot vendor table and have been sending us some links, including the below photo from Laughing Squid coverage of HOPE Number 9. Scott Beale deserves a special prize for stumbling on (and documenting beautifully) MakerBot wherever we appear in the world: our unofficial photojournalist-at-large. Laughing Squid….also documented the Toy Tokyo booth at San Diego Comic Con at the same time. Wow! How do they do that?

If you have been holding out on me, share links to your photos of MakerBot at HOPE and we’ll share them here!
