Modelers Wanted for TEDxYouth@Flanders Shells

TEDxYouth Shell

Thingizen deeeep conducted a Project Shellter workshop at TEDxYouth@Flanders last week. The enthusiastic kids envisioned all sorts of fantastical shells for hermit crabs. Now they need to be modeled so they can be printed and introduced to the crabitats!
Will the Karshellians like a multi-room shell? Will Paris Shellton dare to wear a shell adorned with wings? There’s only one way to find out: empirical science!

Are you a Blender ninja or a Sketchup wizard? Maybe your Maya-fu is legendary. If you’re looking for a unique challenge please consider helping out by modeling one of the drawings produced at the workshop.

Drop a comment here if you take on the challenge then upload a finished model to Thingiverse and tag it with shellter.

The kids and crabs thank you!

I’ll take a stab at that fish mouth one there.

It’s marvelous working with a design that was not made in the first place to me 3D modelable and in the second place to be printable. Starting with that in mind can be limiting and I double I could do it. Working with a free form design and saying “now, how do I make this printable” is a great challenge to have to undertake.

Uploading a version of the fish mouth / swirly top one to Thingiverse.

If I get some time I’ll try another one. Really wish I had time to do more it’s too much fun.

Ran it through RepG and did a preview with blender, will print tomorrow or the next day.

The swirly top will be the hard part to print with no support.
