MothBee by gwygonik

There are perhaps not enough things on Thingiverse like this: a little bit dreamy, a bit strange, a bit…twee?  Maybe? At any rate, I hope that more modelers follow gwygonik’s lead and start modeling things based on sketches from non-engineers.  (Apologies if gwygonik’s wife is, in fact, an engineer.)

Gwygonik also shares a link to a story on his design blog.  It looks like we’ll be seeing more cool items from this designer soon.

But of course, the most important thing here is how good this print looks covered in tinfoil.  All hail the MothBee!

    So, was just wondering,
Can a makerbot print a makerbot?

Thanks for the kind words about MothBee. No, my wife is not an engineer (she’s a photographer) but she shares a love of sci-fi and a vivid imagination.

While I’m mostly focused on designing and printing mundane things (for a specific reason), the potential is huge for ornamental objects as well. While the raw state was very enjoyable, the finishing takes it into a different space. In this case simple silver-leaf transforms equally simple plastic into something doubly special – the beauty of the printing-process artifacts and the polished sparkle of “metal”.

Decorative, futuristic, wearable, conversation starter, pretty, tip of the iceberg.
