Battery compartment with contacts by Obijuan
Obijuan’s use of captive nuts plus bolts to connect to the batteries is just brilliant. The nut/bolt system will hold the battery in place tightly, provide electrical contact, and give you a place to connect a wire securely. And, if necessary, you could always solder the wire directly to the bolt.

I made a similar project a couple summers ago.
I made fake batteries with hollow centers, so you can use power adapters with your battery-only devices.
These work great with my Canon 430ex flash that doesn’t include a DC adapter!
I only got around to making AA and D batteries.
