Robot talks!

With the Botacon approaching on December 11, 2010, we’re looking to line up some speakers and to spur some interesting discussions.

Who do you want to see at Botacon?  A famous robot scientist?  MakerBot owners?  Your favorite amateur robot scientist?  Your high school science teacher?  A robot artist?  An artist who uses robots?

Leave a comment and drop a few names and we’ll see what we can do about getting them there!

I’m still more likely to not make it than make it to Botacon but if I were to go, I’d be interested in hearing about futures: stepper extruders, ways (especially printable ways) to improve quality and/or build times, repg print servers and APIs, slicing software, new materials, etc, etc. If it’s coming (even longer term) and is going to make this world better, I want to hear about it.

Also, a Hardware For Dummies thing would be good – lots of people seem to assume that everybody knows what an hbridge and mosfet and other magical bits of electronic wrangling do. I have no idea. A talk on that stuff in the context of 3D printing, would be great. Double great if it then made it into the wiki.

And, last, having MBI talk about where they want to be in, say, 1, 3 and 5 years would be good. I don’t have a feel for what’s coming – is it improvements for what I’m interested in or will it be a bot that extrudes custom pasta shapes? (not that either is bad.. I’m just personally interested in only one of them). So, like, are they gearing more towards getting a maximum number of toolheads out there or more towards moving the basic design forward.

    Since you’re asking for people:

    * Zach giving a talk on the Generation 4 electronics and how it is improved over Gen 3.

    * Enrique talking about how skeinforge works.

    * Erik de Brujin talking about whatever he wants. :)

Oh.. “Who”. Right. I knew that..

Er.. I’ll 2nd Stan’s suggestions and add Adrian & nophead. Plus Nick Ames and Jordan. Possibly a panel Q&A of these folks, moderated by MakerBlock. And add Neil Stephenson in there too, just because.
