“Big announcement”? Not a makerbot going out of business sale I hope!

Perhaps the Makerwave is becoming a reality?

My obvious guess: Makerbot 2.0, with integrated Plastruder 5 and ABP

If they released a Makerbot with an integrated Cyclops Scanner, that would be awesome! It would be a 3-D photocopier.

My guess is either a smaller announcement of a bunch of new colors or something similar to the Makerwave. The base Makerbot hasn’t really been updated much since the first batches, so I think this announcement might be a totally new bot. I’m thinking something based on the Makerwave, but a little more refined. I’m doubting the support material thing, because thats a very difficult thing to do and there hasn’t been any talk about it from the MBI guys recently. But it is possible as they have been flouting the MK5′s ability to do multiple feeds a lot. But some new skeinforge stuff to do multiple colors might also be the new thing.

    We shall see.

Oh and one last idea. This one is actually quite possible. New electronics. They’ve been working on new electronics for a while so they might finally be ready. I think new everything. Maybe even an official LCD.

How much will they be on sale for? I might actually buy one. ;-) I’m so excited about this new announcement, too. Also, about how far away is “soon”? Like, in the next week, after Wednesday’s sale, etc.

My guess is as good as anybody’s here, but I think they’re having the MakerBot sale so they can quickly roll out the next batch and have the MK5 included in the kit.

    Bre !!!!,

You have to see this. These chinese manufactures are coming for our makerbots. Its time for a new design or upgrade kit quick with lead screws (or support material). Please post your ideas on these knock offs.

    xsainnz!

Yes I am aware of all of those sites. I have been following Bre since before he thought of and his friends thought of Makerbot. And I have also followed Reprap since 2005. I just don’t want people taking the Makerbot community ideas and pretending they are their own. I also don’t like people who use open source any thing and don’t release their modification like Reprap and the makerbot gang. You have to respect what Bre and Adrian are trying to do.

Here’s a list of the new things that could be coming:
    1. Generation 4 electronics and an LCD with some on board controls.
    2. Plastruder MK5 w/ heated build platform.
    3. Possibly a whole new Makerbot. Dimensions are bigger.
    Just some thoughts…

It’s not the Gen 4 electronics, I don’t think we’ll see them until early 2011. From what I’ve seen and read they are currently undergoing rigorous testing and will include and LCD and interface board to control the bot.
