What would you do with a fully automatic MakerBot?

Beco Blocks FTW

Beco Blocks FTW

Absolutely, positively, a bucketful of Beco Blocks.

When I started printing on my MakerBot, one of the first things I tried to crank out were Beco Block parts.  Using the Skeinforge Multiple feature, I could print up 4-9 copies of a particular block piece at a time.  Unfortunately, without a spindle or an automated platform this was a time consuming process of printing, setting up, and monitoring for tangles.

The idea of setting a MakerBot to build a full set of construction toys and having a bucket of parts a few hours later is almost too much.  What would you print if all of a sudden the setup and monitoring time dropped to zero?

A Strømg Lump Leaks!! http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2069 . Of course, with almost 550 different pieces, you’d need to get the software a bit more automated, too..

I found that one last night while browsing thingiverse as well. it’s more of an epic build than a makerbot I think. keeping track of all the parts would be really hard

I would invent hex-legos. Legos that are based on a hex array of dots instead of the square array. Could probably make converter legos to go from hex to square and square to hex.

I’d print out a ton of them and build tables out of them.

already tackled the printed makerbot, that was not easy and a whole lot of hours ripping print files. looking for something absolutely crazy now :)

i really need to figure out skeinfox a bit better, i think you might be able to que up a bunch of files to get sliced at once.

Yes, skeinforge will slice a folder full of files via the Meta > Polyfile tool.

Using Skeinfox I copied a working profile then enabled the Polyfile tool and saved the copy as the batch version of the profile. I used it on a custom sized Transformer and it worked great!

    Go!

What to print on the new and improved automatic makerbot?

A chess set I have modeled.
Every spaceship I have ever made or downloaded. (Animation junkie)
3D dungeons along with some buildings and other 40K accessories (and vehicles)
And probably something for my kids. Only when I am done with my stuff.

I think that’s it. For now.

Wow, that’s awesome! I know Bec will be tickled pink to see her blocks were the first choice. She’s away camping at the moment, but I’ll pass it on.

As for what I’d print? Definitely this first:

Then probably a set of twisty boxes. Hmmm… then pretty much everything on Thingiverse.
