Looking for an EE Wizard

electrical_wizard

MakerBot is looking to expand. The next person we’re looking to hire is an electrical engineer. We’re looking for someone with a deep and masterful understanding of the workings of electrons and how to control them. If you are the type of person who ends up boring people at dinner parties talking about Boron and other doping agents, you may be our person! This position will be focused on building the latest and greatest open source electronics for MakerBot, so we’re really looking for someone with experience in mechatronics. The role will primarily be electronics based, but they will be controlling things such as motors, relays and other mechanical beasts.

If this is not you, but describes someone you know, please send them our way. If you refer us someone we end up hiring, we’ll hook you up with 5lbs of plastic.

Check out the craigslist posting for full details on the position and details on how to apply.

Why not relocate? If you’re the right candidate with the right skills, the salary will be comfortable here in NYC.

Sounds like an interesting offer, and even matches a lot of the skills i have to offer. But relocating from Switzerland to NY… Defintaley would need some time to get all the formalities with work visa and all the other stuff sorted out.

Anyway, i already wish you good luck with your search. The makerbot electronics seriously need a makeover. There are quite some flaws in there that need to get fixed as soon as possible. (Thats why i started my own makeover-project in the first place)

Hi Zach, Bre, Adam et al,

I guess there’s enough room for a full time job to develop Makerbot/RepRap electronics I imagine that many of the skills are already there in the community. Perhaps there are other ways of getting collective action going (it already is ‘going’). Of course you’re already offering the RRRF.org prototyping service (or not anymore?), which isn’t used much, or at all, but I guess it deserves a thought. I’m not sure whether a challenge would work, but discussing the options would be nice. A full time EE guy working on sweet new open source electronics is absolutely great though (I wish I was your man :) but I’m underspecialized).

I wonder how many paid jobs there will be in open hardware in 5-10 years. It’s a commonly held belief that open source work is non-paid work, but that’s not true. For example a decent part of Linux kernel stuff is done by paid engineers from IBM and other hardware vendors.

I mentioned the posting to a buddy of mine who is an EE guy.

He’s gonna drop a resume by after I told him (He was saying he didn’t think he was good enough) “You basically work with robotics every day of your life. You will be fine”.
