LearnMakeCupcake: Playing Ketchup

The folks in Washington state are rocking it these days. Kevin, who is in the Learn Make Cupcake group at the University of Washington has been printing Mendel parts like mad and added a nice hack to his extruder to stop busting out PTFE barriers.

The LearnMakeCupcake bot kept blowing PTFE barriers so I gave them that clamp setup. It’s just a 1/2″ copper pipe coupler (the kind without the stop.) I bought a few of them and cut a slot the length of it with a dremel cutoff wheel. It’s a perfect fit around the PTFE barrier. I can’t remember who first proposed the idea, but it was someone on the Makerbot list.

I was posting the upgrade as a fix and have been using it for quite for a quite while. thought the original idea came from someone’s blog. it was from someone early on.

I built this mod this weekend after reading an idea on the Google groups. Got all the parts from Home Depot – how funny! Will this fix truly enable me to say “You have failed me for the last time Makerbot”?
