Any chance you guys will sell smaller amounts? I’d love to buy some blue to print my Tardis:), but 5 lbs is a lot, considering i’ve barely dented my 5 lbs of black.
Thanks
Jason

Seconding smaller amounts. Maybe a Starter Kit of 1 pound each of black, white, green, yellow, blue, red? That would be awesome.

Why is it that I help myself picturing this guy ‘smashing’ a power tool and plugging it into mains just to check if it still works? Oh wait…

How about a multi-color pack? Say 1 lb of each of the new colors (red, blue, yellow, green)?
Of course the next request is going to be for a six-color plastruder (B/W/R/G/B/Y).
Then we’ll show those IEEE guys what DIY Dreamers can really do!

I am for a multi-color pack as well.

I love the idea of a multi-pack but it doesn’t really make sense for us right now. It costs us a lot to have them made in 1 pound rolls and it would double the per pound price. For now, if you just want to try them out, I suggest checking with your regional group and making a group order and sharing the rolls. – Bre

I understand Bre’s point…
But I just wanted to add my name to the list of people who would have bought a “starter set” like the others described if it were available. If this ever becomes practical it’d probably be a good seller. Especially when you introduce new materials.

honestly is there really, really, REALLY something of use that can be made on this technology except for xmas cracker toys?

Yeah, a lot of people are able to replace plastic components that are otherwise unavailable. For example, you have a light bar in your kitchen, and one of the little plastic clamps breaks, you can print a new one. This is the sort of thing that you just can’t buy by itself. You’d have to buy the whole light bar anew to get the proper little cheap plastic bit.
Then, there’s guys like cathalgarvey who are fabbing stuff like centrifuges for medical samples. The existing products cost hundreds of dollars. But, a doctor in Somalia could fab a cheap, plastic version and snap it onto a Dremel or blender and create a useful tool for about five bucks.

Alex: Home 3D fabrication is so early that no one should buy a MakerBot because it is useful. They should buy it because they want to experiment. (Think Apple I here. What was that good for at the time?) The tool itself is the object of study right now.

I’d definitely use a starter color pack. But I understand that theres a cost issue right now. I guess as long as you guys know the demand is there!
Thanks for listening
